Bush Walks Sydney Region

Non-members welcome.

MEET UP INSTRUCTIONS:

8:50AM

Monday 13 February 2023 on Town Hall Steps.

WALK to bus stop Stand L, Druitt St.

BUS 506 Get off in Park Rd at Princes St.

WALK:
Viewed from a 2 km rather rough section of the Great North Walk, the mangrove forests of this stretch of the Lane Cove River were thankfully saved when plans for Sydney's destructive North-Western Expressway were abandoned in the sixties.

A further 2km of suburbia will lead us to Sydney Water's remarkable and mysterious 1930-built inverted syphon, convict-entrepreneur Mary Reibey's house ($20 banknote) aka Fig Tree House, the shortest expressway in Australia (1km) and a refreshing beer/meal at the Hunters Hill Hotel.

RETURN from Hunters Hill Hotel. Buses every 20 minutes to Town Hall, Chatswood, Burwood and Macquarie Park stations.

DIFFICULTY Medium:

Four kilometres, but rough track section of Great North Walk, and possible high temperatures on the day.

What to bring:

Sun protection, drinking water, strong shoes, and a snack.

LEADER Kevin: 9819 6052
